The <strong>the</strong>oretical accessibility of <strong>the</strong> main destinati<strong>on</strong>s in Western <strong>Europe</strong> is 24 hours.<br />

Approximately 12.500 road vehicles leave <strong>the</strong> <strong>Europe</strong>an ports per day. The port motorway is<br />

c<strong>on</strong>nected with <strong>the</strong> <strong>Europe</strong>an motorway network.<br />

Rotterdam is c<strong>on</strong>nected with more than a thousand seaports worldwide (Nor<strong>the</strong>rn and Sou<strong>the</strong>rn<br />

America, Africa, South-Eastern Asia, Australia). In 2010, traffic at <strong>the</strong> port is expected to reach<br />

about 40.000 sea vessels.<br />

C<strong>on</strong>cerning <strong>the</strong> reloaded commodities, <strong>the</strong> bulk liquid goods c<strong>on</strong>stitute about a half of <strong>the</strong><br />

volume, bulk loose materials approx. 30 % and lump commodities about 20 %, mostly in<br />

c<strong>on</strong>tainers. The c<strong>on</strong>tainer overload rate is <strong>the</strong> highest in <strong>Europe</strong>, followed by Hamburg.<br />

The area of <strong>the</strong> Rotterdam port covers about 100 km 2 . The port offers:<br />

- 1.060 ha for overload and storage of bulk liquid materials<br />

- 220 ha for overload and storage of bulk loose materials<br />

- 220 ha of c<strong>on</strong>tainer terminals<br />

- 65 ha of food warehouses<br />
