The waterway classificati<strong>on</strong> defines individual waterways according to <strong>the</strong> maximum proporti<strong>on</strong>s<br />

of vessel, for which <strong>the</strong> c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s allow safe and smooth operati<strong>on</strong>. These proporti<strong>on</strong>s are listed in<br />

<strong>the</strong> chart below.<br />

2.2.1 The Czech Republic<br />

The Czech Republic signed <strong>the</strong> AGN Agreement in Helsinki in June 1997, <strong>the</strong> Agreement<br />

entered into force <strong>on</strong> 26 th July 1999. The <strong>Elbe</strong> river is <strong>the</strong> <strong>on</strong>ly waterway of internati<strong>on</strong>al importance<br />

in <strong>the</strong> Czech Republic (E20). In a l<strong>on</strong>ger perspective, <strong>the</strong>re is a possibility of c<strong>on</strong>necting <strong>Elbe</strong><br />

waterway to ano<strong>the</strong>r important waterway Danube (E80), by building channels between Danube,<br />

Oder and <strong>Elbe</strong>. The territorial protecti<strong>on</strong> of <strong>the</strong> Danube-Oder-<strong>Elbe</strong> channel c<strong>on</strong>necti<strong>on</strong>s is included<br />

in <strong>the</strong> c<strong>on</strong>cept of <strong>the</strong> Spatial Development Policy of <strong>the</strong> Czech Republic.<br />
