2.5 PORTS<br />
Ports are <strong>the</strong> keyst<strong>on</strong>e for handling goods and for a possible c<strong>on</strong>necti<strong>on</strong> of water transport to<br />
road or railway transport. This chapter presents a brief statistical comparis<strong>on</strong> of <strong>the</strong> volumes of<br />
reloaded goods in <strong>the</strong> important ports <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Elbe</strong> river and in <strong>the</strong> major <strong>Europe</strong>an sea ports<br />
c<strong>on</strong>nected with <strong>the</strong> <strong>Elbe</strong> waterway.<br />
2.5.1 The <strong>Elbe</strong> inland ports<br />
There are following major inland ports <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Elbe</strong> waterway:<br />
• in <strong>the</strong> Czech Republic – Mělník, <strong>the</strong> public port Lovosice, <strong>the</strong> private port Lovosice, Ústí<br />
nad Labem, Děčín<br />
• in Germany – Dresden, Riesa, Torgau, Rosslau, Aken, Magdeburg, Wittenberge<br />
Six of <strong>the</strong> ports – <strong>the</strong> public port Lovosice, Děčín, Drážďany, Riesa, Torgau and Rosslau are<br />
operated by Česko-saské přístavy přístavy Ltd. (Sächsische Binnenhäfen Oberelbe GmbH – <strong>the</strong><br />
SBO). The Mělník and Ústí nad Labem ports are operated by České přístavy Inc.<br />
