#77 Characterisati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> clinical paratuberculosis <strong>on</strong> New Zealand deer farms<br />

Aim: To characterise clinical paratuberculosis (ill-thrift and/or scouring unresp<strong>on</strong>sive to treatment) in New Zealand<br />

(NZ) farmed deer herds.<br />

Method: Data were obtained by pers<strong>on</strong>al interview <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> 174 volunteer deer farmers in 2005 with known<br />

deer paratuberculosis culture status. Subsequent postal questi<strong>on</strong>naire data were obtained to 15 November<br />

2007 from 81 <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> those herds. Descriptive data and associati<strong>on</strong>s between clinical Ptb, seas<strong>on</strong> and locati<strong>on</strong> are<br />

presented.<br />

Results: By 2005, 89% (96/108) <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> MAP positive herds had experienced ≥1 clinical case. In 2005 <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

median incidence in MAP positive herds was 1.2% (range 0.1% - 21.5%) in deer
