Sheep buyers are encouraged to obtain a declarati<strong>on</strong> for any c<strong>on</strong>signments <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y are<br />

interested in buying and to learn what <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> ABC informati<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong> it means for <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m. Buyers can<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>n determine <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> risk that those sheep present to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir own flock, by relating <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> score <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

take that risk. The clear message is that <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> higher <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> ABC score <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> introduced sheep, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

lower <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> risk and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> greater c<strong>on</strong>fidence in protecting a flock’s ovine Johne's disease status.<br />

Extensive promoti<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> use <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Nati<strong>on</strong>al Sheep Health Statement was<br />

undertaken prior to its launch in March 2008. A simple <strong>on</strong>e page flier was developed with <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

message D<strong>on</strong>’t be fleeced when next you buy sheep and an easy to remember website was<br />

developed, www.ojd.com.au . The website is promoted as <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> central source <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> informati<strong>on</strong>,<br />

with links to and from each state website and key industry websites. In some states, animal<br />

health authorities have printed hard copies <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Nati<strong>on</strong>al Sheep Health Statement for<br />

distributi<strong>on</strong>, but this is not encouraged as it <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>ten leads to producers using out <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> date<br />

statements. In <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> future, an E-form is planned for electr<strong>on</strong>ic lodgment and inclusi<strong>on</strong> in presale<br />

catalogues.<br />

To reinforce <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> biosecurity comp<strong>on</strong>ent <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> this message <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Nati<strong>on</strong>al Sheep Health<br />

Statement is also readily accessible from a high pr<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>ile website used to promote general farm<br />

biosecurity, www.farmbiosecurity.com.au.<br />
