Proceedings of the 10th International Colloquium on Paratuberculosis

Dear IAP members and o<strong>the</strong>r delegates,
As we meet here in Minneapolis-Saint Paul for this 10 th edition <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>International</strong> <strong>Colloquium</strong>
on Paratuberculosis (ICP), I want to greet and welcome you to an edition that is
historical for marking <strong>the</strong> 20 th anniversary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> incorporation <strong>of</strong> <strong>International</strong> Association
for Paratuberculosis (IAP). The IAP is <strong>the</strong> now adult child <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> tallest figures <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>
early times <strong>of</strong> 20 th century study <strong>of</strong> paratuberculosis, <strong>the</strong> late Richard Merkal and Rod
Chiodini. They, with <strong>the</strong> support <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r founders created a structure that nowadays
is <strong>the</strong> international forum for technical discussion on a subject that is growing in importance
and whose backbone is <strong>the</strong> more than 160 members from 34 countries.
The colloquia are <strong>the</strong> regular meetings <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> IAP for which we spend two years preparing <strong>the</strong> materials and
looking forward. For <strong>the</strong> first time we have not just a seat for <strong>the</strong> next one, <strong>the</strong> 11 th ICP that will be held in
Sidney hosted by Richard Whittington, but two bids for <strong>the</strong> following one. Here, in Minneapolis-Saint Paul, we
expect to meet 300 researchers interested in paratuberculosis in order to discuss around 200 presentations on <strong>the</strong>
hottest topics in <strong>the</strong> field that will also be analyzed in <strong>the</strong> 10 keynote and perspectives talks. This is an exciting
program that will keep <strong>the</strong> delegates stuck to <strong>the</strong>ir chairs and for which we thank Scott Wells and his team.
We also thank <strong>the</strong> Local Organizing Committee for <strong>the</strong> excellent facilities that <strong>the</strong>y have been able to put at our
disposal. I encourage you all to take advantage <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m, to actively participate in <strong>the</strong> sessions, and to enjoy this
opportunity to visit <strong>the</strong> United States <strong>of</strong> America.

enjoy your time with us. I trust you will find our University and <strong>the</strong> metropolitan area <strong>of</strong>
Minneapolis and St. Paul invigorating and memorable.
