expected for the double-deck unit for operation at st<strong>and</strong>ard flux rates for sewage<br />

treatment. <strong>The</strong> EM (single-deck) <strong>and</strong> EW modules are expected to be in commercial<br />

production by 2006 <strong>and</strong> are already being designed into future treatment plants for<br />

delivery in that year.<br />

4.2.2 Brightwater Engineering<br />

Brightwater Engineering Ltd has been established since 1990. <strong>The</strong> company designs,<br />

supplies <strong>and</strong> commissions plants for the treatment <strong>of</strong> sewage, industrial wastes, water<br />

<strong>and</strong> sludges. Brightwater is a member <strong>of</strong> the Bord na Móna Environmental (UK) Ltd<br />

group <strong>of</strong> companies, which acquired Brightwater in July 2000.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Brightwater ME<strong>MBR</strong>IGHT ® system (Fig. 4.6) is an FS immersed <strong>MBR</strong> (i<strong>MBR</strong>)<br />

with 150 kDa polyethylsulphone (PES) membranes mounted on a rigid polypropylene<br />

(PP) support. <strong>The</strong> module is 1120 mm in length, 1215 mm in width for a<br />

50-panel unit (715 mm for 25-panel unit) <strong>and</strong> 1450 mm high. <strong>The</strong> respective membrane<br />

area provided by the two sizes is 46 <strong>and</strong> 92 m 2 , with each square panel,<br />

950 mm in length, providing an area <strong>of</strong> 1.84 m 2 . <strong>The</strong> membrane spacing is ~9 mm,<br />

the panel support spacing being 10 mm <strong>and</strong> the panels are clamped in place within<br />

a stainless steel frame to form the module. <strong>The</strong> module is fitted with an integral aerator<br />

which ensures even distribution <strong>of</strong> air across the module.<br />
