286 The MBR Book On the following pages are listed the membrane products which have either been used for membrane bioreactor (MBR) duties or are being recommended for this purpose by the suppliers (Table D.1). Those products in which no specifications are presented in the subsequent sections are italicised. These products are either not commercially available or, as yet, have not been employed for MBR duties. Some multitube (MT) products may be used by process suppliers interchangeably in their processes provided they are a standard module size (typically 8� diameter modules). Note that a number of generic terms and definitions exist for the three MBR membrane configurations of flat sheet (FS), hollow fibre (HF) and MT (Table D.2). The membrane module details of FS, HF and MT are given in Tables D.3–D.5. The specific membrane area (membrane area per unit module volume) refers to the area based on the FS panel or HF/MT module. The area per module (FS) or rack (HF) is given in parenthesis, where provided by the supplier.
