modules, with pore sizes ranging from 20 kDa UF to 0.5 �m MF and i.d. between 2.5 and 15 mm. The membranes are robust to TMPs up to 2.5 bar. 4.5 Other sidestream membrane module suppliers 4.5.1 Novasep Orelis Orelis, now part of the Novasep group and originally formed as part of the break-up of the Rhone Poulenc group, has a number of membrane products including ceramic monoliths (Carbosep ® and Kerasep), spiral-wound UF (Persep) and FS UF (Pleiade ® ). It is the latter (Fig. 4.43) which has been used in sMBR applications, although the ceramic module is offered for MBR duties. The Pleiade ® element comprises 2610 mm by 438 mm polyacrilonitrile-based FS rated at 40 kDa pore size. The membrane elements have inlet and outlet ports, which allow passage between each cell (i.e. FS channel), and the membrane channel width is 3 mm. This means that a module depth of 1710 mm provides a membrane area of 70 m 2 (Fig. 4.44). 4.5.2 Polymem Commercial technologies 197 The Polymem technology is unusual in that it represents a rare example of an HF membrane module being employed in a sidestream configuration, the proprietary name of the module being Immem.
