Prostate Gl<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> urinary Tract<br />

There.is.some.evidence.that.perinatal.exposure.to.<br />

bisphenol.A.in.rodents.may.alter.prostate.gl<strong>and</strong>.<br />

<strong>and</strong>.urinary.tract.development.<strong>and</strong>.predispose.<strong>the</strong>.<br />

prostate.to.develop.horm<strong>on</strong>ally-induced.pre-neoplastic.lesi<strong>on</strong>s.later.in.life..The.evidence.is.not.<br />

sufficient.to.c<strong>on</strong>clude.that.bisphenol.A.is.a.rodent.<br />

prostate.gl<strong>and</strong>.carcinogen.or.that.bisphenol.A.<br />

presents.a.prostate.cancer.hazard.to.humans.<br />

In.mice,.exposure.of.pregnant.dams.to.bisphenol.A.at.an.oral.dose.of.0.010.mg/kg.bw/day.<br />

has.been.shown.in.<strong>on</strong>e.study.to.alter.prostate.<br />

development. in. offspring. by. increasing. <strong>the</strong>.<br />

number.of.prostatic.ducts,.ductal.volume,.<strong>and</strong>.<br />

<strong>the</strong>.proliferati<strong>on</strong>.of.a.cell.populati<strong>on</strong>.implicated.<br />

in. <strong>the</strong>. development. of. prostate. cancer. (basal.<br />

epi<strong>the</strong>lial.cells).in.<strong>on</strong>e.or.more.regi<strong>on</strong>s.of.<strong>the</strong>.<br />

prostate.(54, 192)..This.study.also.reported.a.<br />

urinary. tract. deformati<strong>on</strong>. where. <strong>the</strong>. urethra.<br />

narrows.near.<strong>the</strong>.neck.of.<strong>the</strong>.bladder,.an.effect.<br />

that,.if.permanent,.could.c<strong>on</strong>tribute.to.urine.flow.<br />

disorders..These.effects.were.observed.in.fetal.<br />

mice.<strong>and</strong>.it.is.unclear.if.<strong>the</strong>y.persist.into.adult-<br />
