2007 represented an important step in the evolutionary process of the Mercosul Biennial
and in fulfilling the Foundation’s aims and values: of seeing art as an instrument for
citizenship, promoting equal opportunities, freedom of expression and respect for diversity,
developing skills, working honestly, ethically and transparently, achieving quality in all its
process and organising a consistent education programme.
Awareness of our aims and values encourages us to face new challenges, stimulating the
dialogue between contemporary art proposals and the citizen. Statistics and indices
constantly assess the pertinence of educational activities, but it the statements of teachers
taking part in the training sessions and the enthusiasm of the pupils visiting the Biennial
exhibitions that demonstrate the sureness of the path being taken.
Previous editions of the Biennial expanded the education programme’s relationship with
the community through involvement with state and city education secretariats, schools,
teachers and pupils, which has brought great advances for the Foundation’s Education
Programme and, we believe, made a very singular contribution to the education of the
children, young people and teachers involved.
The consolidation, scope and results from the Education Programme have been the driving
force for its continuity, especially through decentralised activities among the great network
of collaborators been being built since 2008.
