CHAPITRE 5 CHAPITRE 5 – Introduction généra<strong>le</strong> : Expériences 1 et 2 Effet d’interférence contextuel<strong>le</strong> et apprentissage moteur : contributions <strong>de</strong>s facteurs Condition <strong>de</strong> pratique, Simi<strong>la</strong>rité <strong>de</strong>s tâches et Quantité <strong>de</strong> pratique. Dans un con<strong>texte</strong> d’apprentissage moteur, augmenter <strong>le</strong> niveau d’interférence créé au cours <strong>de</strong> <strong>la</strong> phase <strong>de</strong> pratique produit dans un premier temps <strong>de</strong>s effets délétères sur <strong>la</strong> performance immédiate <strong>de</strong> l’apprenant puis, dans un second temps, améliore <strong>le</strong>s performances lors <strong>de</strong>s tests <strong>de</strong> rétention/transfert (Shea & Morgan, 1979 ; voir Magill et Hall, 1990, pour une revue). En contrastant <strong>la</strong> pratique <strong>de</strong> différentes tâches motrices dans une situation à faib<strong>le</strong> niveau d’interférence (i. e., pratique bloquée) et à niveau d’interférence é<strong>le</strong>vé (i. e., pratique aléatoire), Shea et Morgan (1979) ont révélé l’existence <strong>de</strong> cet effet paradoxal nommé « effet d’interférence contextuel<strong>le</strong> » dans <strong>le</strong> domaine moteur. L’effet IC, généra<strong>le</strong>ment induit par <strong>la</strong> manipu<strong>la</strong>tion du facteur condition <strong>de</strong> pratique (e. g., Shea & Morgan, 1979 ; Shea & Zimny, 1983 ; 1988 ; Magill & Hall, pour une revue), n’est cependant pas <strong>le</strong> seul facteur susceptib<strong>le</strong> <strong>de</strong> modu<strong>le</strong>r <strong>le</strong> niveau d’interférence créé lors <strong>de</strong> <strong>la</strong> phase <strong>de</strong> pratique. En effet, selon Battig (1972 ; 1979), <strong>le</strong> niveau <strong>de</strong> simi<strong>la</strong>rité entre <strong>le</strong>s variations <strong>de</strong> tâches à apprendre influence éga<strong>le</strong>ment <strong>le</strong> niveau IC. Battig (1979) suggère que « <strong>le</strong> <strong>de</strong>gré d’interférence contextuel<strong>le</strong> est fonction <strong>de</strong> <strong>la</strong> difficulté <strong>de</strong> <strong>la</strong> tâche », où plus une tâche est diffici<strong>le</strong> et plus <strong>le</strong> niveau IC augmente. Autrement dit, en augmentant <strong>le</strong> niveau <strong>de</strong> simi<strong>la</strong>rité entre <strong>le</strong>s tâches à pratiquer on augmente <strong>le</strong> niveau <strong>de</strong> difficulté <strong>de</strong> <strong>la</strong> tâche, créant ainsi un haut niveau IC favorab<strong>le</strong> à l’apprentissage <strong>de</strong> <strong>la</strong> tâche. Toutefois, <strong>la</strong> notion <strong>de</strong> « simi<strong>la</strong>rité » utilisée dans <strong>le</strong>s travaux <strong>de</strong> Battig fait essentiel<strong>le</strong>ment référence aux caractéristiques sémantiques <strong>de</strong>s mots à apprendre. Cette définition ne s’applique donc pas directement au domaine <strong>de</strong> l’apprentissage moteur ; définir <strong>le</strong> terme « simi<strong>la</strong>rité <strong>de</strong>s tâches » dans <strong>le</strong> domaine moteur reste donc un point majeur à prendre en considération. Les rares étu<strong>de</strong>s ayant à ce jour investigué <strong>le</strong> facteur « simi<strong>la</strong>rité <strong>de</strong>s tâches » dans <strong>le</strong> domaine moteur ont essentiel<strong>le</strong>ment manipulé <strong>le</strong>s caractéristiques invariantes du geste, considérant qu’un haut niveau <strong>de</strong> simi<strong>la</strong>rité (i. e., condition simi<strong>la</strong>ire) entre <strong>le</strong>s tâches à apprendre est obtenu lorsque <strong>le</strong>s variations conservent <strong>le</strong>s mêmes caractéristiques invariantes du geste (e. g., Lee, Wulf, & Schmidt, 1992 ; Wood & Ging, 1991). Une tel<strong>le</strong> conception <strong>de</strong> <strong>la</strong> simi<strong>la</strong>rité <strong>de</strong>s tâches fait directement référence à <strong>la</strong> proposition <strong>de</strong> Magill et Hall (1990) 48
