different ways. You will have an idea
and a feeling connected to the works
on display both in the case you happen
to read the same books I’m reading, as
in the case watching my works without
sharing any of my knowledge. I am not
telling anyone how to read my works,
and I don’t see them as conclusions. I
want to create a visual trigger, an
opening, to another way of watching
certain facts or phenomena. I think the
visual presentation of an idea is the main structure of art. This is the first step you invite
the viewer to take. The references and the information surrounding the artworks are
partly there to keep me interested in doing them, partly there to invite the spectator to a
new area. If you didn’t know about Corbis and The Baghdad Battery before, maybe I
caught your interest in learning more about this?
F. L. – Paper Clip is really great. What effect could have the elettricità discovery
at that time and in the Middle East?
C. A. – Since this topic is the key point in the Paper Clip (The Baghdad Batteries) I am
reluctant to try to answer this question. The question is what made me do this piece in the
first place. To lead the question in another direction, just as mind-bending as the question
above, how about this: What if they did realise the power (or evolutionary leap, if you will)
in this discovery, how come they did not develop it further? Or did someone stop them? I
am happy for answers.
