tanti eventi culturali organizzati ogni anno.
e pandolci.
Bernhardt, Gilberto Govi, Eugenio Montale e Camillo
and the Baroque furniture which is a sight unto itself,
is an autograph by Giuseppe Verdi, who came up with
the name of Falstaff – the main character in his latest
opera – for the pastry bar’s brioches saying that he
considered their Falstaff “much better than mine”.
After 30 years of silence, another pastry bar,
Pasticceria Liquoreria Marescotti, in the 13th century
loggia of Palazzo Gattilusio (one of the most important
examples of Genoese medieval architecture) on Via
Fossatello, was reopened in 2008 by Alessandro Cavo.
His family makes the bitter almond macaroons of
Voltaggio, and were partners with the original owners
of the pastry shop. Born in the 1700s as a chocolate
maker, it conserves intact the furnishings in Charles X
style done in poplar, feather maple, and rosewood,
along with mirrors and tall showcases surmounted by
the symbol of the Madonna del Dito. The rooms
upstairs hold 40 seating places. There you can sip the
famous liqueur of the house, or else have a tea, coffee,
chocolate, or an aperitif. You can also participate in
many different cultural events organized here each
year. Behind Via Garibaldi, the Pasticceria Confetteria
Villa on Via del Portello, in the old stalls of Palazzo
Lercari Parodi, began life as a drugstore in 1827. Today
it is run by the Profumo family, pastry-makers now for
three generations. Our pastry tour concludes at
Mangini in Piazza Corvetto. The Caffè Pasticceria born
in 1876, has been since 1957 the property of the
Rossignotti family, industrial pastry-makers from Sestri
Levante. Here the beautiful gather from the world of
culture and theatre. It tables have seated Gilberto Govi,
Eugenio Montale, and Camillo Sbarbaro, while the
internal salon is named after Sandro Pertini, because
this is where he would meet with his editorial staff on
the newspaper, Il Lavoro. He would come back often,
even after he became President of Italy.
L'itinerario goloso
The Itinerary
Seguendo idealmente i profumi
di paste, confetti e cioccolatini si
può coprire con lo stesso
"goloso" percorso buona parte
del centro cittadino di Genova.
Passando da un'era storica della
Superba all'altra, si passa dalle
atmosfere senza tempo dei vicoli
più stretti della città vecchia (via
San Bernardo e Fossatello) e le
piazze più nobili dei caruggi
(Soziglia) ai grandi spazi della
città rinascimentale (via del
Portello, a due passi da via
Garibaldi, la "Strada Nuova") e
ottocentesca (l'elegante piazza
Corvetto).
Following the aromas of pastry,
sugar-coated almonds, and
chocolate, you can cover a good
part of Genoa’s city center.
Passing from one historic era of
the Superba (Genoa’s
nickname), the route goes
through places straight out of
the Middle Ages (when Genoa
was one of Europe’s 4 biggest
cities) such as via San Bernardo
and via Fossatello to piazzas
renovated in the Renaissance
(Soziglia) to the Baroque area
of town, via del Portello next to
via Garibaldi (Europe’s first
baroque street), to the 1800s at
elegant Piazza Corvetto.
