Scorci e sentieri tra il Passo
della Gabba e Barbagelata. In
questi boschi, durante gli anni
della seconda Guerra
Mondiale, combatteva una
delle brigate più celebri
della Resistenza ligure:
la Brigata Berto
Breath-taking views and
winding trails from the pass,
Passo della Gabba to
Barbagelata. These woods were
the hiding place of one of the
most famous partisan brigades
of the Ligurian Resistance
during the Second World War,
the Berto Brigade
Once we have passed the village,
to our right the High Road of the
Ligurian Mountains, (Alta Via)
begins once again, taking us back
to the Passo della Scoglina. For a
shorter excursion, start from the
monument to the partisans near
Barbagelata from where, in
around an hour, you can reach
the Caucaso Refuge.
zione è quindi obbligatoria se si
vuole essere certi di trovare un
piatto caldo.
Ripreso il cammino, dalla cappelletta
del Monte Caucaso si
segue il sentiero segnalato con
il triangolo rosso e si entra nella
faggeta. Tutt’intorno è un tripudio
di colori: rosso, giallo,
verde e le più varie sfumature di
marrone incantano il viandante
ad ogni passo. In pochi minuti si
raggiunge il passo del Gabba
dove a un crocevia si trovano
le lapidi in memoria di due
partigiani della Brigata Berto
caduti nel 1945. Si scende per
un breve tratto e poco dopo si
raggiunge un altro monumento
dedicato ai partigiani. In un attimo
ci si ritrova sulla strada che
porta a Barbagelata. Visitato il
borgo si riprende il sentiero dell’Alta
Via dei Monti Liguri indicata
sulla destra che riporterà al
Passo della Scoglina. Per
un’escursione più breve, si consiglia
di partire dal monumento
ai partigiani nei pressi di Barbagelata
e in un’ora circa si raggiunge
il rifugio del Caucaso.
Barbagelata e la Resistenza
Barbagelata and the Resistance
partigiani caduti.
“The Scoglina Pass unites and brings together the three sacred valleys of the
Resistance: the Fontanabuona, Aveto, and the Trebbia – Here too a wind blew,
here too freedom blew into the valleys. In the radiant April of 1945, among
the beech trees and the hedgerows, here lies the memory of a struggle which,
prepared in sacrifice, led to victory.” This is the text on the monument to the
partisans on the Scoglina Pass.
At 1115 meters above the sea, between Fontanabuona and the Val Trebbia
valley, Barbagelata is a little village of few houses, inhabited mainly in the
summer. In the winter you can count the people who live here on the fingers
of your hand. This typical Ligurian Apennine village was the scene, during the
Second World War, of many attacks by the Nazis.
The most brutal took place on August 12, 1944 when they set the village on
fire, destroyed the houses, and many peasants took up their guns. Only the
old church was spared. Later, using the beams that were pulled out of the
rubble, the cross seen today in the central nave of the new church was
constructed.
It is possible to walk through the dramatic history of those days along the
trails which cross the Apennines, where gravestones and slabs stand in
memorial to fallen comrades.
