finally express himself fully. Here
he could continue his conversation
with nature which amply
suggested forms and gestures to
him since the dawn of surrealism.
And here he could continue to reinvent
himself as a child, to recover
the freshness of those insights into
the true signs of pre-school
infancy, the period in which we all
were artistic. This is why his works
enchant us – they are our regret of
a gift that we enjoyed for a few
years and then lost.
Joan Miró got it back. He probed it.
And he continued to distribute it
abundantly, in full colors, to the
threshold of ninety years of age.

Some of the works exhibited in
Mirò! Poesia e luce (Poetry and
Light) at the Ducal Palace, where
the Catalan Maestro’s studio is
also reproduced, furnished with
the brushes, everyday objects and
instruments that he used
in his life, lying on the ground
while his finger – used as if it were
a brush – traces the mysteries of
this world of his, of this world of
ours, made of essential elements
that are simple but which preserve
the seeds of magic and a fragment
of the infinite. “My characters have
undergone the same simplification
as colors. So simplified that they
are more human and more alive
than they would appear to be if
they were represented by all of
their details, but denied that
imaginary life that makes
everything bigger.”
The exhibition in Genoa can be
visited until April 7. Around 80
works are presented, among which
are fifty oils – some of considerable
dimension, some watercolors, and a
selection of terra cottas and
bronzes. All come from his
foundation, Fundació Pilar i Joan
Miró di Palma di Maiorca. To bring
people into the Catalan maestro’s
creative climate, his studio has been
reconstructed, filled with the
objects, the brushes and other
instruments that he used daily.

poi perduto.
Joan Mirò l’ha recuperato, l’ha
sondato e ha continuato a distribuirlo
a piene mani, a pieni
colori, fino alla soglia dei novant’anni.
Alcune foto lo ritraggono,
in tarda età, sdraiato a
terra mentre col dito, usato alla
stregua di un pennello, traccia
i misteri di questo suo mondo,
di questo nostro mondo di
allora fatto di elementi essenziali,
semplici ma che serbavano
il seme della magia e un
frammento di infinito: «I miei
personaggi hanno subito la
stessa semplificazione dei colori.
Così semplificati, sono più
umani e più vivi di quanto non
apparirebbero se fossero rappresentati
con tutti i particolari
e privi dunque di quella vita
immaginaria che rende tutto
più grande».
La mostra genovese, visitabile
fino al 7 aprile, presenta un’ottantina
di lavori, tra cui cinquanta
oli anche di grande formato,
alcuni acquarelli e una
selezione di terrecotte e di
bronzi, tutti provenienti dalla
Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró di
Palma di Maiorca.
In mostra compaiono tele importanti
come Femme dans la
rue del 1973 e bronzi come
Femme del 1967.
A tale proposito ci sembra opportuno
ricordare la bella rassegna
di sue sculture presentate
dieci anni fa all’Accademia
Ligustica per riassaporare la
straordinaria capacità di invenzione
di questo autore che si
avvaleva degli “oggetti trovati”
da assemblare e da trasformare,
grazie alla fusione nel bronzo,
in immagini di recondita
meraviglia e di rinnovabile fascino.
Una meraviglia e un fascino
da tradurre in struggente
nostalgia.
