In cammino tra le sciamadde
A Walk into the Past in the Present
Non solo percorsi tra dolci e confetterie. Nel centro storico genovese c’è chi ogni sabato propone un itinerario
tra i forni e le antiche sciamadde della città vecchia
In addition to pastry bars and candy-makers take a Saturday morning tour through Genoa’s old city that
winds between bakeries, fry-up shops, salty pie makers, and ancient trades along medieval alleyways
Tutti i vicoli in un piatto. Tra
botteghe centenarie e pietre
che potrebbero raccontare l’intera
storia di una città, perdersi nella
magia del centro storico di
Genova è forse il miglior modo
per riscoprire mondi sconosciuti,
sapori antichissimi e mestieri
dimenticati. E se sono mille e più i
percorsi da inventarsi nel dedalo
dei caruggi cantati da poeti e
cantautori, c’è pure chi ha voluto
racchiudere tutto il fascino di
mescite, friggitorie, forni e
“sciamadde” alla genovese nello
stesso itinerario. Si tratta di
Albatravel, tour operator che
ogni sabato mattina, dalle ore
10,30 organizza e propone a
genovesi e turisti una speciale
visita guidata (in lingua italiana e
inglese) dal nome Botteghe del
centro storico e antichi
mestieri. Tre ore di cammino
(degustazioni incluse) che
partono dall’Info point di piazza
Caricamento per andare a visitare
le più pittoresche botteghe della
città vecchia, luoghi che evocano
aromi e sapori di un tempo ma
sono ancora oggi molto
frequentati nella vita di tutti i
giorni. Si passa dalla friggitoria di
Sottoripa – quella che fa
assaggiare i pignolini fritti e il
baccalà alla genovese – all’
elegante Barberia in stile liberty
di vico Caprettari, perla di
bellezza di proprietà del Fai,
dall’Antica drogheria Torielli di via
S.Bernardo ai tavoloni di marmo
di Sa Pesta, antica sciamadda di
via Giustiniani dove gustare le
tradizionali torte di verdura e i
ripieni alla genovese cotti nei
forni a legna. E ancora, da piazza
Giustiniani - dove “Aria di Mare”
vende pizzi, macramè, ceramiche
M
edieval alleyways on a
plate. Hundred year old
shops, thousand year old
stone, that tells the entire
story of a city. To lose oneself
in the magic of Genoa’s old
city, is perhaps the best way
to discover a forgotten world
of ancient flavors and old
trades. There are a thousand and
one itineraries to invent in the
labyrinth of narrow streets in this
historic city sung by poets and
singer-songwriters.
And there are those who wish
capture all the fascination of
mescite, friggitorie, forni and
sciamadde in one simple route.
Take a trip with Albatravel, a tour
operator who every Saturday
morning from 10:30 on, takes
visitors and Genoese on a special
guided tour (in English and
Italian) to the botteghe – the
shops, bars, enterprises – of
Genoa’s old city and its ancient
trades. A three hour walking tour
(including stops to taste and
sample) starts from the Info-point
in Piazza Caricamento and takes
you to see, alleyway after
alleyway, table after table, the
e stampe
tradizionali
genovesi su
tessuti alla
celebre
tripperia di
vico
Casana, da
piazza
Soziglia (e i dolci di Klainguti e
Romanengo) ai Macelli di
Soziglia, dove oggi come nella
vecchia Genova colorano
l’atmosfera prodotti e profumi
della Torrefazione Boeri, della
Botteghetta dei presepi,
dell’oleoteca Gramole, macellerie
e pollerie. Il tutto condito da
degustazioni e dimostrazioni
pratiche di fascinosi antichi
mestieri.
most picturesque
botteghe in the
medieval city center.
The aromas and flavors
of the past are still here
today in the present,
and still very popular in
the city’s everyday life.
First we pass the fry-up
shop, the friggitoria di
Sottoripa, under the
arcades where you
sample pignolini fritti
and baccalà alla
genovese. Then we reach the
elegant and Art Nouveau Barberia
in Vico Caprettari, a “pearl of
beauty”, owned by the Italian
conservation trust, FAI. There is
the Antica Drogheria Torielli on
Via S.Bernardo, and the big marble
table at Sa Pesta, the ancient
“sciamadda” on Via Giustiniani
making traditional salty pies and
stuffed vegetable ripieni alla
Genovese to then bake in a wood
oven. And on to Piazza Giustiniani
where “Aria di Mare” sells lace,
macramè, ceramics and tradition
Genoese prints on fabric, and then
the famous “Tripe House”
Tripperia di Vico Casana. There
are desserts to be enjoyed on
Piazza Soziglia (Klainguti and
Romanengo) and meat at the
Macelli di Soziglia, where the air
of the present is perfumed as in
the past by the products and
aromas of the candy-makers,
Torrefazione Boeri. Next come the
Crèche figure-makers at the
Botteghetta dei Presepi, Le
dell’oleoteca Gramole , meat
butchers, chicken butchers. All
garnished by the tasting and the
sampling and the practical
demonstrations of the most
fascinating of ancient trades.
