Foppiano, sostituita solo negli anni ’80 con una

negozio. Ho acquistato l’attività commerciale nel
1980 dal Signor Rocca, figlio dell’orafo che lavorava
con Copello, il primo proprietario. Devo
dire che nonostante sia passato più di un secolo
questo complesso di vetrine funziona alla perfezione».
Oggi la figlia Carlotta, abile disegnatrice di preziosi,
si sostituisce volentieri a Giovanna nella conduzione
del negozio. «Ho disegnato vari gioielli,
anelli, collier e bracciali arricchiti da gemme e brillanti.
Ho studiato disegno e designer per continuare
il mestiere e disegno gioielli su ordinazioni
degli orafi o in accordo con loro».
Copello è anche il nome della pasticceria più antica
di Chiavari e, forse, tra le più rinomate d’Italia.
L’attività commerciale inizia nel 1826 al numero
162 di Caruggiùdritu per volontà dei due
fratelli Pietro ed Agostino Podestà, ricordati poi
con l’appellativo “Peostin”, frutto dell’intreccio
tra i due nomi. Con il nuovo secolo assume la
proprietà il pro nipote dei fondatori,Giuseppe
Copello, che nel 1911, rinnova il negozio arredandolo
in stile Liberty Floreale con un tocco di
eleganza. Da allora nulla è cambiato. Nel 1913,
con l’arrivo dell’energia elettrica in città, la famiglia
Copello compra alcune macchine elettriche
per impastare i dolci e i redattori del giornale

1980s. “These swinging showcases are the core of
the shop. I bought it in 1980 from Signor Rocca,
the son of the jeweler who worked with Copello,
and I must say that even though more than a
century has passed, the showcases still work
beautifully.” Today her daughter, Carlotta, an able
designer of jewelry, happily substitutes for Giovanna
in the running of the shop. “I have designed many
jewels, rings, necklaces, and bracelets studded with
gems and diamonds. I have studied design, and I
design to continue the profession. I design made to
measure jewels for other jewelers or in accordance
with them.”
Copello is also the name of the oldest pasty bar in
Chiavari, and is, perhaps, one of the most famous in
all of Italy. The shop was started in 1826, at 162
Caruggiùdritu, thanks to the will of two brothers,
Pietro and Agostino Podestà, (“Peostin” comes from
the braiding of their two first names). At the turn of
the century, the property passed to the greatgrandnephew
of the founders, Giuseppe Copello. It
was he, who, in 1911, decided to renovate the shop
in the new floral Art Nouveau style, giving it a
touch of elegance. Since then, nothing has changed.
In 1913, electricity came to Chiavari. The Copello
family bought a few electric machines to make
