being taken seriously, even in the area of academic theology." But it<br />
seems to me that where one does not subscribe to the duplex ordo of<br />
secular and ecclesial theological disciplines, or a simple separation<br />
between them, but to the simplex ordo of all disciplines together, the<br />
synergy between them must be expressly promo<strong>te</strong>d, and the<br />
secularization of the practice of theology must be opposed. I<br />
subscribe to Congar's sta<strong>te</strong>ment that, for <strong>Thomas</strong>, sacra doctrina is<br />
primarily one continuing body of knowledge, and sincerely hope that<br />
those practicing theology in the Netherlands who are in<strong>te</strong>res<strong>te</strong>d in the<br />
classical practice of theology, or in other words, theological<br />
theology, will share this view. Such a practice of theology is, it is<br />
true, mindful of the different demands of academic discipline and the<br />
Church, but is aware of the original and final unity of both.47 It is,<br />
furthermore, a practice of theology that does not exclude the<br />
practitioner of the theology, but includes the practitioner in its self<br />
reflection." It is, of course, not for nothing that I began this lecture<br />
with an analysis of holy and holiness, and Christ as the source of all<br />
holiness." I should like to express the hope that, in the foots<strong>te</strong>ps of<br />
the holy Saint <strong>Thomas</strong>, theology will once again start to include<br />
holiness more and more in its culture as a service to the sacred<br />
mys<strong>te</strong>ry of our faith: I hope that theology will become more<br />
theological. In recent decades, the secularization of the practice of<br />
