Te vergeefs waarfchuwdeHiëRONYMus, fchoon zelf te midden van dezeHeilige Plaatzen te Bethlehem wonende, de Christenentegen dit Bijgeloof, in eenen Brief, omtrenthet jaar 395, aan den Monnik PAULINUS, die hemdaarover geraadpleegd had, gefchreven (*), welkeBrief in te algemeene bewoordingen is opgefteld,dan dat men , met fommige laater Schrijvers, zoudenken, dat HiëRONYMus daar mede bedoeld hebbe,alleen de Monniken, van zoodanige Godsdienftigcreizen naa Jerufalem, af te manen.
