8ABSTRACTThis dissertation analyzes the relationships between Literature and History, with a focus onanalysis of the female characters of the novel “Gaúcho a pé” trilogy, consisting of “SemRumo”, “Porteira Fechada” and “Estrada Nova”, written by the author and psychoanalystgaúcho Cyro Martins. In this study, we believe that the author's literary narrative consists inan interweave between the creative imagination and the facts experienced by him. This resultsin a historical-literary knowledge that facilitates the process of self-knowledge of man as wellas the un<strong>de</strong>rstanding of the society in which he is inserted in. We use then studies aboutLiterature and History from various researchers, among them: Barthes, Kun<strong>de</strong>ra, Forster,Henry James, Antonio Cândi<strong>do</strong>, To<strong>do</strong>rov, Tacca, Hay<strong>de</strong>n White, Sandra Jatahi Pesavento,Paul Veyneand others. From these theoretical assumptions we procee<strong>de</strong>d the analyzes of three theauthor's works published between 1937 and 1954. We look at the history of Rio Gran<strong>de</strong> <strong>do</strong>Sul present in the trilogy to un<strong>de</strong>rstand the history of Rio Gran<strong>de</strong> <strong>do</strong> Sul’s women of the<strong>de</strong>ca<strong>de</strong>s focused on the books. We used fictional literature to better un<strong>de</strong>rstand the social andcultural questions present in mentality and Rio Gran<strong>de</strong> society structures. In addition, wesought to emphasizes the literary features in the novels written by Cyro Martins.Key-words: knowledge- literary narrative- Cyro Maratins -female personages
