1957, wenige Jahre nach dem Erscheinen des Films wurde die Musik zu THE
COBWEB gemeinsam mit Rosenmans Musik zu dem Soziodrama EDGE OF THE
CITY auf M-G-M Records veröffentlicht und es ist erstaunlich, wie sehr die
Produktionsfirma M-G-M in den ›liner notes‹ die Qualität dieser Filmmusik
an ihrer Modernität und an ihrer Eigenständigkeit außerhalb des Films
misst. Zudem ist es ein interessantes Detail, dass Rosenman beim
Komponieren freie Handhabe hatte:
M-G-M Records takes pride in presenting this recording
in that it ranks at once as one of the most unusual and
substantial releases in the history of albums of music
recorded for film soundtracks. Not only does it
memorialize two memorable films – it also brings to life
two of the finest and most mature musical background
scores ever created for film. The music heard here is
made of the stuff of greatness and lasting power. It is
music which is daring and, in certain aspects,
experimental. And, most important, it is music possessed
of values which give it effectiveness when it is divorced
from the role of accompanying motion picture action.

Mr. Rosenman demands and always is allowed free rein
on the films to which he is assigned to compose scores.
The freedom of expression he achieves is noticed easily
