Unless sited in a seismic zone, rein<strong>for</strong>ced masonry structures<br />

masonry structures are extremely brittle. As a point of reference,<br />

a rein<strong>for</strong>ced masonry building with 8-inch thick rein<strong>for</strong>ced CMU<br />

exterior walls is likely to suffer heavy damage in response to 500<br />

pounds of TNT at a distance of 150 feet or less. An unrein<strong>for</strong>ced<br />

masonry building with rein<strong>for</strong>ced CMU pilasters will suffer heavy<br />
