Flat slab failure mechanisms<br />

Floor slabs are typically designed to resist downward gravity<br />

loading <strong>and</strong> have limited capacity to resist uplift pressures or the<br />

upward de<strong>for</strong>mations experienced during load reversals that may<br />

precipitate a flexural or punching shear failure (see Figure 2-8).<br />
