4.9 training <strong>and</strong> inFormation<br />

Employees should be trained in evacuation, shelter, <strong>and</strong> other<br />

safety procedures. Sessions should be conducted at least annually<br />

or when:<br />

m Employees are hired.<br />

m Evacuation wardens, shelter managers, <strong>and</strong> others with special<br />

assignments are designated.<br />

m New equipment, materials, or processes are introduced.<br />

m Procedures are updated or revised.<br />

m Exercises show that employee per<strong>for</strong>mance must be<br />

improved.<br />

In addition:<br />

m Emergency in<strong>for</strong>mation such as checklists <strong>and</strong> evacuation<br />

maps should be provided.<br />

m Evacuation maps should be posted in strategic locations.<br />

m The in<strong>for</strong>mation needs of customers <strong>and</strong> others who visit the<br />

facility should be considered.<br />
