Although it is said that the actual
text of Pacini was modified from
time to time, still it can be said with
certainty that it was fixed at the
time of the Bhasyakara who has
noted a few different readings only.
The Sutra text approved by the
Bhasyakara was followed by' the
authors of the Kaiika excepting in
a few cases. It is customary with
learned Pandits and grammarians
to say that the recital of the Sutras
of Pacini was originally a continuous
one in the form of a Samhita-
text and it was later on, that it was
split up into the different Sutras,
which explains according to them
the variation in the number of
Sutras which is due to the different
ways of splitting the Sutrapatha.
