are internal rhymes': "he, be, Secrecy,<br />

accent the last syllable in " many," we may<br />

whole passage as three rhymed<br />

We saw that the French <strong>version</strong>s<br />

of the Anecdotes<br />

often contained rhymes, and now we shall find that<br />

the French translations of the Essays in the same<br />

Paris edition of 1633 also rhyme. The passage on<br />

dissimulation is even more merrily rhymed and longer<br />

than in the English edition, though printed in prose<br />

as usual. For the sake of brevity we shall this time<br />

translate it at once into rhymed verses :<br />
