I also used an HDR environment for reflections and lighting One of the most important things in this image is the octopus’s skin. I have tried to create a wet, fleshy and jelly-like skin by painting the main colour texture in ZBrush and sending this texture – with a slight colour temperature offset – to the Epidermal, Subdermal and Color slots of the mental ray Skin shader Bon Appétit 2010 The idea behind the image was quite simple: to create an interesting and simple render, and then print it out on the canvas to give the picture to my girlfriend’s mother. She has a whole new kitchen, and since she really likes seafood I wanted to create something that she could look at while she is enjoying her meal! Character I chose to use mental ray’s Bokeh shader for the depth of field effect – I like it, but the render time was hell! 143
