4.3 Decline in Employment Levels: The total Employed Labour Force amounted to<br />

1,087,900 persons in April 2010, down from a peak <strong>of</strong> 1,174,500 in October 2008 (see<br />

Figure 3).<br />

4.3.1 Pre-Global-Crisis Impact: Prior to the impact <strong>of</strong> the crisis on the economy, most<br />

industries recorded growth in employment. Between April 2004 and October 2008 an<br />

estimated 119,900 jobs were added. The industries registering employment growth in<br />

excess <strong>of</strong> 10,000 persons during the period were Agriculture, Hunting, Forestry &<br />

Fishing; Education; Real Estate, Renting & Business Activities; and Wholesale & Retail,<br />

Repair <strong>of</strong> Motor Vehicle, Cycle, Personal & Household Goods. The industries showing<br />

estimated job losses were Private Households with Employed Persons; Manufacturing;<br />

and Industry Not Specified (Table C1).<br />
