a. Environmental compliance training is required for employees conducting specific activities<br />
in order to ensure employees working at JSC are competent and knowledgeable in the<br />
requirements to perform their job in an environmentally compliant, safe, and effective manner.<br />
(1) Environmental training identified as mandatory shall be completed within 90 days of hiring<br />
or within 90 days of assignment to a new job task requiring the environmental training.<br />
Recommended training may be taken at the employee’s convenience.<br />
(2) Employees shall not conduct activities requiring training (unless supervised) until<br />
applicable environmental training has been completed.<br />
1.5.2 Supervisors and Employees<br />
a. Supervisors and employees shall determine mandatory environmental compliance training<br />
by completing the Environmental Training Matrix, available on the Environmental Webpage at<br />
http://www6.jsc.nasa.gov/ja/ja13/index.cfm.<br />
b. By answering the questions related to job activities, employees or supervisors are able to<br />
identify required training. The website allows employees to print out a list of mandatory and<br />
recommended environmental training, schedule classroom training, take online training, save<br />
or print the completion certification, and query the environmental training database for training<br />
history.<br />
c. Employees without computer access may contact the EO to request classroom training.<br />
1.5.3 Directorate Level Organizations (DLOs) shall:<br />
a. Identify and obtain any specialized, job-specific environmental training required to ensure<br />
that employees understand how to perform their job in a manner that minimizes environmental<br />
impacts and complies with regulatory requirements. Some environmental training may be<br />
offered only by specialized off-site trainers.<br />
b. Obtain records of specialized training and provide documentation of training to the EO upon<br />
request. Examples of this type of specialized training are refrigerant technicians (for personnel<br />
who repair refrigerant systems or operate refrigerant recovery systems containing ozonedepleting<br />
substances) and State of Texas asbestos abatement certification.<br />
c. Train employees on the proper maintenance and operation of equipments or processes in<br />
order to ensure they understand and control any actual or potential environmental impacts.<br />
1.5.4 Facility Managers (FM) shall:<br />
a. Obtain initial general environmental training through FM training.<br />
(1) Complete all environmental training that is required for activities performed in their<br />
assigned building(s).<br />
