(5) The EO will screen the products for any ingredients that will require special handling and
respond by letting the requestor know which items may be turned in via the standard waste
turn in and pickup procedures. Any items that require special handling will be flagged.
(6) The requestor will be contacted with instructions for any items flagged as requiring special
handling. These items will be picked up from the satellite accumulation area by specially
trained personnel during designated and scheduled events.
3.10.3 Roll-off Containers
When the roll-off is full or it is within two weeks of the 90-day accumulation time limit, the
generator shall contact the EO and request either a replacement (if necessary) or removal
when no longer needed.
3.10.4 Miscellaneous Accumulation Devices
The generator shall contact the EO to request pickup of miscellaneous accumulation devices.
3.10.5 Discarded or Excessed Equipment
Equipment or processors may contain hazardous materials. Prior to discarding or excessing
them, the generator may need to have them drained or decontaminated. The generator shall
contact the EO to determine the appropriate handling for discarded or excessed equipment.
3.11 Waste Treatment
Treating wastes prior to disposal or other disposition is highly regulated and may require
permits, design, and operational controls. The generator shall consult with the EO early in the
planning process if treatment of any waste material is being considered. Obtain approval from
the EO before treating any waste by following the steps outlined in Chapter 2 Environmental
Planning.
Note: Treatment includes neutralization, filtration, chemical reactions, flocculation, and other
processes.
3.12 Empty Containers
a. Containers that meet the following criteria may be thrown into regular trash dumpsters or in
some cases recycled through Logistics’ scrap metal program. See Chapter 4, Recycling and
Managing Other Solid Wastes for additional information. Generators considering discarding
containers as plant trash shall ensure that the containers meet all of the following criteria:
(1) Are empty (i.e., physically remove all contents such that there is no flowing material and
that any non-flowing material is scraped out of the container);
(2) Are less than 5 gallons in volume;
