b. Materials laboratories equipped with existing limestone pits plumbed into the sanitary sewer<br />

are permitted to discharge small volumes of dilute acid into properly designed laboratory sink<br />

drains.<br />

c. The presence of a limestone pit does not authorize discharge to storm water. No chemicals<br />

shall be discharged to storm water, even after treatment.<br />

d. Concentrated or dilute acids shall not be discharged into the sanitary sewer system without<br />

submittal of a JF1109 and express consent from the EO.<br />

8.2.2 Prohibited Discharges<br />

a. The following are prohibited and shall not be discharged into the sanitary sewer:<br />

(1) Pollutants that create, or have the potential to create, a fire or explosion hazard in the<br />

Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW);<br />

(2) Pollutants causing corrosive structural damage to the POTW;<br />

(3) Pollutants in any amount capable of causing obstruction to the flow in the POTW;<br />

(4) Pollutants released at a flow rate and/or concentration which will cause interference with<br />

the POTW;<br />

(5) Discharges of heat in amounts which will inhibit biological activity in the POTW.<br />

Specifically, discharges of liquid or vapor having a temperature higher than 113 degrees<br />

Fahrenheit or any substance which causes the temperature of the total POTW influent to<br />

increase at a rate of 10 degrees Fahrenheit or more per hour or a combined total increase of<br />

POTW influent temperature to 104 degrees Fahrenheit;<br />

(6) Discharges of petroleum oil, non-biodegradable cutting oil, or products of mineral oil origin<br />

in amounts that will cause interference or pass through;<br />

(7) Discharges which result in the presence of toxic gases, vapors, or fumes within the POTW<br />

in a quantity that may cause acute worker health and safety problems; and<br />

(8) Discharges of trucked or hauled pollutants.<br />

b. The following are prohibited and shall not be discharged to the sanitary sewer unless<br />

specific written authorization is received from the EO:<br />

(1) Discharges with a pH less than 5.5 or greater than 9.5;<br />

(2) Fats, wax, grease or oil in concentrations exceeding 100 mg/L;<br />

(3) Cyanide in concentrations exceeding 0.32 mg/L;<br />

(4) Chlorides in concentrations exceeding 250 mg/L;<br />

(5) Fluorides in concentrations exceeding that contained in drinking water;<br />
