(1) Clearly and legibly label each container with the following: ―WARNING: CONTAINS LEAD<br />

POISON.‖<br />

(2) Mark all bagged waste with the generator’s name (responsible person), organization,<br />

removal location and removal date.<br />

3.6.8 Labeling Waste Containing Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs)<br />

a. Generators of waste containing PCBs shall comply with the requirements below:<br />

(1) Non-leaking small capacitors with total volume of less than 100 cubic inches and<br />

fluorescent lamp ballasts if they are not labeled ―NON-PCB‖:<br />

(a) Clearly and legibly label each container with a description of the contents of the container<br />

(e.g., ―waste ballasts‖).<br />

(b) Do not use ―Hazardous Waste‖ labels or PCB labels.<br />

(c) Mark the date on the container that the waste was first placed inside.<br />

(d) Do not tape paper labels to waste containers.<br />

(2) For leaking small capacitors (total volume of less than 100 cubic inches), fluorescent light<br />

ballasts, and transformers, follow spill/release procedures in Chapter 12, Handling and<br />

Reporting Spills and Releases.<br />

(3) For PCB containing ballasts, transformers or other equipment which are not labeled ―NON-<br />

PCB‖ by the manufacturer, mark the date the ballast or other equipment was removed from<br />

service and call for waste pickup.<br />

3.6.9 Labeling Unknown Waste<br />

a. Generators who discover unknown wastes within their work area shall:<br />

(1) Mark the unknown material (RED HAZARD TAG) as ―Unknown – Pending Evaluation by<br />

Environmental‖ and notify X33333 for immediate attention.<br />

(2) Do not move or open the container holding the unknown from the original place of<br />

discovery. Potential dangers exist to untrained personnel handling unknown chemicals due to<br />

the inability to determine physical hazards (flammability, oxidizers) or health hazards (routes of<br />

entry, personal protective equipment).<br />

3.6.10 Labeling Gas Cylinders<br />

Generators shall maintain the original manufacturer’s label on the cylinder.<br />

3.6.11 Labeling Used Oil and Halogenated Waste Oil<br />

a. Generators shall comply with the following requirements for non-halogenated used oil:<br />
