(6) Improvements in housekeeping, maintenance, inventory control and training;<br />

g. Perform Pollution Prevention Opportunity Assessments (PPOAs) when a potential source<br />

reduction practice has been identified; and<br />

h. Implement PPOAs (once they are approved by the EO and other necessary stakeholders),<br />

and conduct frequent assessments as to the effectiveness of the PPOA.<br />

i. Identify any new P2 opportunities on a regular basis. This includes:<br />

(1) Keeping accurate and appropriate documentation to measure the success of the PPOA;<br />

and<br />

(2) Documenting P2 projects that have been implemented, which includes tracking and<br />

reporting information and data for annual reporting to NASA Headquarters (HQS) and the<br />

TCEQ.<br />

9.4.2 The EO shall:<br />

Collect and submit information on JSC's P2 programs to HQS and regulatory agencies, such<br />

as the EPA and TCEQ, as requested or required by regulation or management directive.<br />

9.4.3 DLOs shall:<br />

a. Establish and implement a methodology for integrating environmental accountability and the<br />

P2 hierarchy into day-to-day operations, decision making, and long-term planning;<br />

b. Periodically review operations, contracts, specifications and activities under the control of<br />

the DLO to determine if pollutants and toxicity of wastes can be reduced; and<br />

c. Periodically review the P2 Plans for JSC, EF/SCTF, and EPFOL to ensure awareness of the<br />

goals stated within these plans.<br />

9.5 Personnel Training and Certification Requirements<br />

It is recommended, but not required for those employees that perform job activities or functions<br />

covered by this section (or supervisors) obtain specific training mandated by NASA, Federal,<br />

State, or local regulatory agencies. To determine appropriate training requirements, employees<br />

shall refer to Section 1.5 of this manual or the environmental website at:<br />

9.6 Records and Forms<br />

Required records are established on a case-by-case basis for each P2 initiative.<br />
