b. The generator shall identify any additional limitations on storage in the planning stages
before the device was installed or used via communications with the EO.
c. The EO shall arrange for off-site disposal of all industrial solid waste
d. The EO shall manifest ISW offsite for proper disposal.
e. In general, if more than 55 gallons of hazardous waste is accumulated, then the EO shall
ship for disposal from on-site in less than 90 days from the date the first waste was placed in
the device.
f. The EO shall ship for disposal hazardous waste in roll-off containers within 90 days of waste
being first placed into them.
g. The EO shall ship other ISW, such as asbestos-contaminated material, as soon as the
container is full or when the project is finished.
3.8.5 Special Projects
a. Special projects (e.g., metal finishing, vat chemical change-outs or non-routine cleaning
projects) may generate ISW volumes exceeding 55 gallons of waste in one processing day at
locations that may not be registered satellite accumulation areas. If more than 55 gallons or
nine (9) cubic feet of waste will be generated by the activity, then the generator shall:
b. Contact the EO to ensure that the proper containers are utilized and that the ISW can be
picked up and transferred to the 90-day accumulation site on the same day it is generated.
c. Mark drums with the date the drums are filled and called in to the Work Control Center and
the EO before 2 p.m. for same-day pickup.
3.9 General Responsibilities for ISW Generators
3.9.1 Satellite Accumulation Areas
a. ISW generators shall comply with the following minimum requirements:
(1) Do not mix different or incompatible wastes in the same container. Refer to Chapter 14,
Supplemental Waste Accumulation and Segregation Guide for guidance on determining the
compatibility of specific wastes and their segregation requirements.
(2) Keep containers closed except when adding waste. Make sure open-top drums have the lid
on with the ring and bolt tightened except when adding waste. For liquid waste accumulation,
either remove the funnel from the drum and put the drum bung back in place each time you
add waste or use closed-top, screw-in, latching funnels with gaskets.
(3) Use containers that are compatible with the waste; (e.g., do not place acidic waste in steel
drums).
(4) Do not store wastes in glass containers unless it is the only compatible material.
