Meanwhile, ntv7’s ground activities such as the<br />

annual Yuan Carnival and Feel Good Run gained in<br />

popularity. The charity fun run, held for the second<br />

time in <strong>2012</strong>, attracted the participation of over 80<br />

celebrities and raised RM142,800. Similarly there<br />

were high turnouts at each of the eight Yuan<br />

Carnival venues in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Penang,<br />

Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak.<br />

8TV<br />

8TV began the year with a bang as it celebrated<br />

its eighth anniversary on 8 January <strong>2012</strong>. It was<br />

followed by strategic programming and ground<br />

activities to further establish itself as Malaysia’s<br />

hippest TV station and the No. 1 Channel of<br />

choice for the urban youth and the Chinese<br />

audience in Malaysia.<br />

Living up to its ‘We Are Different’ tagline, 8TV<br />

received the best possible eighth anniversary gift<br />

by winning eight awards at the Golden Awards.<br />

These were for Best Drama, Best Director, Best<br />

Original Screenplay, Best Drama Theme Song,<br />

Best Variety and Entertainment Programme, Best<br />

Variety and Entertainment Programme Host, Best<br />

Magazine Programme Host and Most Popular TV<br />

Host/Presenter. Later in the year, it won the<br />

Favourite TV Programme Award for Showdown<br />

<strong>2012</strong> at the Shout! Awards.<br />

8TV also consolidated its position as the fastestgrowing<br />

network in its target market, garnering<br />

over 8.5% of urban viewership and over 25.8% of<br />

Chinese viewership. It remained the country’s<br />

most watched TV channel among Chinese<br />

audiences and the second most watched channel<br />

among urban viewers. It also achieved the highest<br />

viewership during the Lunar New Year<br />

celebrations, attracting an impressive 30% in<br />

viewership ratings.<br />

<strong>2012</strong> marked the third year in which 8TV together<br />

with The Malaysian Retailer Chains Association<br />

(MRCA) celebrated the achievements of Malaysian<br />

entrepreneurs in the MRCA 8TV Entrepreneur<br />

Awards 2011.<br />
