Listed on the Main Board of the Kuala<br />

Lumpur Stock Exchange. This makes<br />

TV3 the first station to be public listed<br />

in Malaysia<br />

TV3 began transmission in Kuching<br />

and Sibu<br />

1991<br />

25 March<br />

Harian Metro, Malaysia’s first Malay daily<br />

afternoon newspaper was published<br />

1994<br />

TV3 aired the first talents scouting show,<br />

Sinaran Pasport Kegemilangan with<br />

successfully discovered the four talented<br />

guys in Malaysia’s most popular funnygroup<br />

Senario – Azlee, Mazlan, Wahid<br />

and Saiful. Currently, the guys are<br />

starring in their own sitcom called<br />

‘Senario’ which with more than<br />

3.5 million viewers per episode is<br />

undoubtedly one of the most successful<br />

shows in Malaysia<br />

The official launch of NSTP On-Line,<br />

Malaysia’s first on-line newspaper<br />

archival and information services<br />

1997<br />

TV3 goes on air for 24 hours in<br />

conjunction with the country’s<br />

40 years of Independence celebrations<br />

1998<br />

ntv7 first came on air on 7 April 1998<br />

and was Malaysia’s third private free-toair<br />

TV station. The station specialised in<br />

urban and international content and<br />

catalysed profound growth in the media<br />

industry across the country<br />

2002<br />

TV3 takes another step forward by<br />

producing its first ever Chinese<br />

programme called ‘Pulanglah’. This<br />

programme is the Chinese version of<br />

Jejak Kasih. It assisted family members<br />

find their long lost loved ones<br />

2003<br />

To celebrate its 19th anniversary, TV3<br />

organised the Karnival TV3 2003 Sure<br />

Heboh which traveled to Johor Bahru,<br />

Malacca, Kuantan, Penang, Ipoh and<br />

Kuala Lumpur. It’s now known as<br />

Karnival Jom Heboh which visited by<br />

5 million people every year.<br />

March<br />

The inaugural New Straits Times Car<br />

of the Year Award was introduced and<br />

became the first award ceremony to<br />

recognise achievement in the motoring<br />

industry in Malaysia<br />

2004<br />

TV3 spearheaded a massive charity<br />

drive with NST, BH and 8TV, ‘Malaysian<br />

Tsunami Disaster Fund’ which<br />

successfully collected RM44.5 million<br />

from its subsidiaries and the public<br />

8 January<br />

8TV began operations on January 8th<br />

2004 and transmits free to the entire<br />

West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia and<br />

Kuantan on the UHF band carrying the<br />

tagline “We Are Different”<br />

8TV brought in the Idol phenomenon<br />

“Malaysian Idol” – 1st reality TV<br />

programme (via free TV), it is the local<br />

round of this renowned global talent search<br />

show that seeks to discover the best and<br />

most promising young talents competing<br />

for the title of the Malaysian Idol<br />

BH clinched the nation’s No.1 Bahasa<br />

NST was published in two sizes;<br />

broadsheet and compact size. It<br />

became the first and only newspaper<br />

in the country to offer two sizes to its<br />

readers. The last issue of broadsheet<br />

was the first entertainment and lifestyle<br />

portal to introduce GUA TV online as<br />

an extension to its editorial content<br />

and the 1st to have a web drama<br />

series, “Kerana Karina”<br />

North Pole Free Fall Expedition – TV3<br />

was the first and only Malaysian TV<br />

station to exclusively cover this<br />

expedition via news and Majalah 3<br />
