suspect a slayer of being there, had it not been

the urgent representation of Dr. Chambers,
that unless the ship proceeded to the Cape we
should lose many more of the crew.
" Yes ! yes ! yes ! doctor," he said, on one
occasion, "but I have information of a large
barque in Mazemba river. I am just going up
to take her, and then going to the Cape."
That evening there was a violent ring at the
bell, and immediately after the "orderly"
was chasing over the ship for the doctor and
master.
The doctor entered the cabin first, with the
master at his heels.
"Doctor, doctor, I am very ill, seized with
violent pains here," placing his hands on his
stomach. "Master, master, put the helm up
and steer for the Cape."
