Traffic, the Particulars of exist<strong>in</strong>g Treaties<br />

and Agreements with the Sultan of <strong>Zanzibar</strong><br />

upon the subject, and the possibility of putt<strong>in</strong>g<br />

an end entirely to the Traffic <strong>in</strong> Slaves by<br />

Sea ;—Have considered the matters to them<br />

referred, and have agreed to the follow<strong>in</strong>g<br />

" rriHAT the Slave-trade <strong>in</strong> negroes on the East<br />

J- Coast of Africa is now almost entirely conf<strong>in</strong>ed<br />

to a trade between the dom<strong>in</strong>ions of <strong>Zanzibar</strong><br />

on the one hand, and the coast of Arabia<br />

and Persia and the island of Madagascar on the<br />

other hand, the pr<strong>in</strong>cipal and by far the largest<br />

portion of the traffic be<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the former<br />

direction. <strong>The</strong> dom<strong>in</strong>ions of <strong>Zanzibar</strong> extend<br />

along the eastern coast of Africa for about 350
