any kind in what is called the graveyard for
Protestants and foreign
heretics, except one in
which Commander Dacres and another officer
of his ship are buried, the relations of whom
sent out a stone and iron rails to be placed
round the same, which has had the effect of

least keeping it more sacred than the rest of the
unprotected ground of irregular mounds and
pits, that give one the idea of the ant-hills of
the East more than anything else, and where
may be seen loitering, quarrelling, squabbling,
gaming, fighting, selling cattle, &c., those
halfcaste

We continued cruising on this part of the
coast until we proceeded to Mozambique, of
which, together with other parts of the Portuguese
possessions on this coast, I shall give
