Bellan and Molocliseto, <strong>in</strong> the district of Zewan-<br />

Qnilla, and not less <strong>in</strong> the villages of Maibesso<br />

and Endarharat <strong>in</strong> the prov<strong>in</strong>ce of Antitscho,<br />

br<strong>in</strong>g s<strong>in</strong>gle slaves secretly to Wora, particularly<br />

children stolen from the Christian population of<br />

Tigre, of which fact I was conv<strong>in</strong>ced by what I<br />

saw <strong>in</strong> Wora; and also, near this village, I<br />

released a child who had been stolen from one<br />

of my own people ; the thief, whom I knew, was<br />

hung by order of Pr<strong>in</strong>ce Ubye.<br />

" From Wora the slaves are conducted to the<br />

country of Habab, on which coast are several<br />

harbour-like places which are frequented by<br />

Arabian fishermen, who take s<strong>in</strong>gle slaves to<br />

the Arabian Coast <strong>in</strong> their small barks, from<br />

whence they go to <strong>Mecca</strong> and the neighbourhood.<br />

" <strong>The</strong> spot on the northern frontier of Habab'<br />

country which coral reefs make <strong>in</strong>to a k<strong>in</strong>d of<br />

harbour, and where more particularly the shipment<br />

of s<strong>in</strong>gle slaves takes place, is called Mersa<br />

Mandele.<br />

" In the Haseri country, north of Nabab's<br />

territory, slaves are also shipped <strong>in</strong> the same<br />

way, that is, to Mersa Abid.<br />

" <strong>The</strong> large bay of Agik is one of the pr<strong>in</strong>cipal<br />

places for smuggl<strong>in</strong>g, and slaves are embarked<br />

there, s<strong>in</strong>gly and also <strong>in</strong> hundreds. On a small<br />

island <strong>in</strong> this bay, bear<strong>in</strong>g the same name is a
