Captain H. Parker, arrive on the 5tli January,
to supply us with provisions. It was resolved
to invite Captain Parker and the officers to
dinner, and an :— invitation was sent in the
following terms " The governor and officers
of the island request the pleasure of the company
of Captain Parker and officers
of H.M.S.
'
Pantaloon' at dinner at five o'clock."
The invitation was accepted, and at the
appointed hour the boat of the " Pantaloon
brought the guests on shore. A guard of
honour was drawn up to
receive them, and a
substitute for a band was supplied by two or
three fifes,
with a tin pot for a drum.
The officers having first walked round the
island to inspect it, were much pleased and
interested with the arrangements of our camp.
When dinner was announced, we proceeded to
the tent. The banquet consisted of " kettler
soup," a variety offish, " kettler entrees," fowls,
salt junk, pressed vegetables, and yam, with
plum-pudding a la lower deck, and an ample
supply of beer and rum.
