On Sunday, June 3rd, we arrived at Aden,<br />

and an hour or two afterwards, just as I was<br />

anticipat<strong>in</strong>g hav<strong>in</strong>g to proceed to Seychelles <strong>in</strong><br />

chase of the " Pantaloon " which was supposed<br />

to have taken her departure for that place,<br />

she rounded the po<strong>in</strong>t and anchored.<br />

She had<br />

captured some dhows about a month previously,<br />

and liberated 300 slaves, among whom were<br />

fifty Galla women, <strong>in</strong>tended for thfe harem of<br />

the Imaum of Muscat.<br />

I superseded Capta<strong>in</strong> Purvis on the 5th of<br />

June, 1866, and on the 8th of the same month<br />

we sailed from Aden, quitt<strong>in</strong>g our k<strong>in</strong>d and<br />

hospitable friends General and Mrs. Re<strong>in</strong>es (late<br />

95th Reg.) with regret,—a regret tempered,<br />

however, by the fact that we were leav<strong>in</strong>g the
