" My Lord,—I have the honour to transmit<br />

herewith a despatch from Mr. Cope, with its<br />

several <strong>in</strong>closures, which reached me too late yesterday<br />

to be forwarded by the weekly messenger.<br />

Its object is to cover an <strong>in</strong>terest<strong>in</strong>g Memorandum<br />

on the East African Slave-trade to Egypt and<br />

Arabia, prepared by Dr. Wilhelm Schimpfer, a<br />

Baden naturalist, who seems to have resided<br />

long <strong>in</strong> the countries on both sides of the Red<br />

Sea, and to<br />

be well acqua<strong>in</strong>ted with the haunts<br />

and routes followed by the slave-traders, and<br />

with the various connivance and opposition
