TN the year 1497, Vasco de Gama, a Portiiguese

his orders, rounded the Cape of Good Hope,
and a few days afterwards anchored off the
Zambesi river, thence he sailed to Mozambique,
and northward along the coast, anchoring off
several parts of it. At all of these places De
