squadron were so disposed of on the coast by<br />

Commodore (now Admiral) Sir Leopold Heath,<br />

that the slave-dealers never could f<strong>in</strong>d out<br />

where they were likely to turn up, but were<br />

surprised <strong>in</strong> every direction by them.<br />

After refitt<strong>in</strong>g at Bombay, we sailed <strong>in</strong> company<br />

with the flag-ship and " Star," and for a<br />

few days were engaged <strong>in</strong> try<strong>in</strong>g rate of sail<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

<strong>in</strong> which the " Daplme," I am bound to confess,<br />

was always where the little boat was, as those of<br />

her class are likely to be, for though powerful<br />

steamers, they are perfect tubs <strong>in</strong> sail<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
