out as her husband's brother who was about to<br />

sell her, came <strong>in</strong>to court, not hav<strong>in</strong>g heard her<br />

evidence, and sv/ore she was his wife ! Both<br />

dhows were condemned.<br />

Leav<strong>in</strong>g Aden on the 11th May, we captured<br />

a dhow with fifty-two slaves on board, between<br />

the island of Socotra and the Arabian coast.<br />

We now left this cruis<strong>in</strong>g-ground for Sey-<br />

chelles.<br />

On our passage these liberated slaves appeared<br />

to enjoy themselves much; they were<br />

all <strong>in</strong> good health and condition: they chiefly<br />

consisted of w^omen and children, who, as I have<br />

before said, are usually taken the most care of.<br />

It was <strong>in</strong>terest<strong>in</strong>g to see them every even<strong>in</strong>g<br />

danc<strong>in</strong>g to their monotonous nigger stra<strong>in</strong>s and<br />

tom-toms.<br />

On arrival at Seychelles, some of us paid a<br />

visit to "Mi^ and Mrs. (Sally) Marlborough,"<br />

and " Mr. and Mrs. (Peggy) Jim." We found<br />

them <strong>in</strong> neatly built huts, and they told us they<br />

were very happy and contented.
