TTTE arrived at <strong>Zanzibar</strong> a few days after.<br />

S<strong>in</strong>ce we had left that port Jumah,<br />

our <strong>in</strong>terpreter, had died of dysentery. He<br />

was a great favourite, and an. amus<strong>in</strong>g old<br />

rogue. I was anxious to see his poor wife,<br />

—that is to say, his pr<strong>in</strong>cipal and favourite wife,<br />

the others could hardly be considered as wives,<br />

to tell her that arrangements would be made<br />

for her receiv<strong>in</strong>g the balance of pay and prizemoney<br />

due to her late husband, whose death<br />

she had been <strong>in</strong>formed of before.<br />
