which, it was feared, would be taken. Angoxa,<br />

for a few years, revolted, and was<br />

and to add to the<br />

difficulty of the situation, the Governor- General<br />

of Mozambique died<br />

of fever, when engaged <strong>in</strong><br />

the above expedition at Quilimane. In short,<br />

the power of the Portuguese, and their only real<br />

stronghold, are now, as they have always been,<br />

practically conf<strong>in</strong>ed to the island of Mozambique,<br />

their great slave-mart.
