It reports directly <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Board of Executive Direc<strong>to</strong>rs, whichoversees IEG’s work through its Committee on Development Effectiveness. IEGis charged with evaluating <strong>the</strong> activities of <strong>the</strong> <strong>World</strong> <strong>Bank</strong> (<strong>the</strong> International<strong>Bank</strong> for Reconstruction and Development and <strong>the</strong> International DevelopmentAssociation), <strong>the</strong> work of <strong>the</strong> International Finance Corporation in privatesec<strong>to</strong>r development, and <strong>the</strong> guarantee projects and services of <strong>the</strong> MultilateralInvestment Guarantee Agency.The goals of evaluation are <strong>to</strong> learn from experience, <strong>to</strong> provide an objectivebasis for assessing <strong>the</strong> results of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Bank</strong> <strong>Group</strong>’s work, and <strong>to</strong> provideaccountability in <strong>the</strong> achievement of its objectives.
